AfricaXP Selects Babeleye to Manage Rich EPG Metadata for Pan-African Pay TV and SVOD Services

  • Babeleye also expands presence in Africa with new office in Johannesburg

Cairo & Rome, March 23, 2016 – Babeleye, the multilingual video content metadata platform, today announced that it has been selected by AfricaXP to manage rich EPG metadata of its li-near channels distributed to two of AfricaXP’s customers. Babeleye will provide total manage-ment and distribution of programming information to top TV platforms Zuku, a leading pan-African pay TV platform, and WatchAfrica, which offers a premium subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service. AfricaXP delivers a full catalogue of quality African content channels via a unique cloud-based content delivery platform directly to broadcasters across the entire African Sub-Saharan region and beyond.

This announcement comes as Babeleye opens a new office in South Africa, its second office on the continent and its first in sub-Saharan Africa

AfricaXP needed to streamline the distribution of channel programming information to partners such as Zuku and WatchAfrica. With the Babeleye solution, AfricaXP is able to easily and in-stantly feed ready-to-use rich metadata into their partners’ electronic program guides (EPG) and eliminate the error-prone and time-consuming manual preparation of data. Babeleye is also able to provide customized and localized metadata relevant for the region, another important consid-eration for AfricaXP.

“Babeleye’s wide expertise in delivering rich metadata and adapting existing formats to different EPG technologies allows us to slash operational times and satisfy the requirements of our TV platform partners,” said Craig Kelly, CEO of AfricaXP. “We wanted to work with a partner who has significant experience in the region, and the Babeleye platform also help us provide better and more customized programming information for a broad range of content, improving the end user experience.”

“AfricaXP specializes in selecting, acquiring and developing the right titles for the African market, with content produced across the continent as well as internationally. Their cloud-based platform powers content delivery for a variety of pay TV, VOD and broadcast TV services. By implementing Babeleye metadata solutions, AfricaXP can more efficiently include rich program descriptions, multilingual EPG information, and more, thus increasing its programs’ exposure and presence on partners’ TV platforms,” said Hamid Ouddane, CEO of Babeleye.

Babeleye offers rich metadata for EPG and video catalogues spanning a wide variety of interna-tional content, and thanks to detailed mapping of local market metadata in the region, can sup-port multiple platforms in multiple countries. The platform also provides comprehensive analytics and editorial recommendations to boost content discovery. For more information, visit www.babeleye.com or email info@babeleye.com.
